Question 1

What is an AI interview assistant?

Accepted Answer

An AI interview assistant is a software tool that provides real-time guidance, code suggestions, and contextual answers during technical job interviews. It listens to the interview conversation, analyzes questions, and surfaces relevant hints or solutions directly on your screen — acting as an invisible co-pilot without the interviewer being aware.

Question 2

How does Natively work as a real-time interview assistant?

Accepted Answer

Natively uses local screen capture and audio transcription to follow your interview in real time. When a coding problem or technical question is asked, Natively's on-device AI model generates suggested approaches, code snippets, and explanations that appear in a discreet overlay on your screen. Everything runs locally — no data is sent to any cloud server.

Question 3

Is using an AI assistant during coding interviews cheating?

Accepted Answer

The ethics depend on context. In take-home or open-book assessments, using AI tools is generally accepted and mirrors real-world engineering. For live proctored interviews, guidelines vary by company. Natively is often used for interview practice, confidence-building, and reducing performance anxiety. Many users treat it as a safety net during the transition to a new role, similar to how engineers use documentation in production work.

Question 4

What is the best AI tool for coding interviews in 2026?

Accepted Answer

Natively is considered the best AI tool for coding interviews in 2026 because it is the only assistant that runs in three modes: fully local via Ollama (Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral) for zero cloud exposure, cloud via your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini key (BYOK), or a managed Natively API. It runs on-device on macOS and Windows and stays invisible to screen-sharing software through a system-level overlay. For example, during a live LeetCode round, Natively reads the on-screen problem via local OCR and surfaces an approach plus Big-O analysis in a discreet overlay. Unlike cloud-only tools such as Cluely, FinalRoundAI, LockedIn AI, and Interview Coder — which stream your audio and screen to remote servers and can be flagged by network monitoring — Natively in local mode generates zero outbound network traffic, making it undetectable at the network layer. It is free to start, with no credit card required for the local and BYOK tiers.

Question 5

Can AI detect when you are using an interview assistant?

Accepted Answer

Cloud-based interview assistants can be detected through network monitoring tools that flag unusual outbound data during screen-share sessions. Natively avoids this entirely by processing everything locally on your device. There is no outbound streaming of your screen or audio, making it undetectable at the network level.

Question 6

Does Natively work with Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Natively works as an overlay on top of any video conferencing platform including Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. It does not inject itself into the call or appear as a participant. It runs as a separate native application on your operating system, so it remains invisible to all call participants and recording software.

Question 7

What operating systems does Natively support?

Accepted Answer

Natively supports macOS (both Apple Silicon M-series and Intel chips) and Windows. A Linux version is currently in development. Downloads are available directly from the Natively website for all supported platforms.

Question 8

Is Natively free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Natively is free and open source (AGPL-3.0), with no account and no credit card required. In free mode you can run it 100% locally with Ollama — models like Llama, Mistral, and CodeLlama run on your own hardware at $0 in API costs forever — or connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or Groq key (BYOK) and pay only your provider's per-token rate, which is typically a fraction of a subscription. For comparison, LockedIn AI runs $55–70 per month and Final Round AI is $149 per month, both with no free local option. If you'd rather not manage keys, the optional hosted Natively API starts at $8 per month (Standard), with Pro at $15, Max at $25, and Ultra at $35 per month — the Pro tier and above also include the Natively Pro desktop app and premium support. You can download Natively and start using the free tier immediately on macOS or Windows.

Question 9

How is Natively different from Cluely?

Accepted Answer

Natively is a local-first alternative to Cluely with a fundamentally different architecture. Cluely is cloud-only — it routes your audio and screen to its servers for processing and requires a paid subscription. Natively lets you choose: run AI models entirely on your device with Ollama (no data ever leaves your machine), bring your own OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini key, or use the managed Natively API. In local mode this means no remote inference subscription, zero outbound network traffic during your interview, lower latency because inference happens on your CPU/GPU rather than over a round-trip to a datacenter, and complete data privacy. A practical example: if your interviewer's company monitors outbound connections during a screen-share, Cluely's API calls can be flagged, whereas Natively in local mode produces no network footprint at all. Natively is also purpose-built for technical and coding interviews (Cluely focuses on general meetings) and supports both macOS — Apple Silicon and Intel — and Windows.

Question 10

What types of interview questions can Natively help with?

Accepted Answer

Natively can assist with a wide range of interview formats: algorithmic coding problems (LeetCode-style), system design questions, behavioral questions with STAR-format guidance, take-home assessments, and product or strategy interviews. It is also resume and job-description aware, tailoring suggestions based on the specific role you are interviewing for.

Question 11

What is the difference between a local AI assistant and a cloud AI assistant for interviews?

Accepted Answer

A local AI assistant runs entirely on your hardware — the language model, transcription engine, and inference all happen on-device with no internet required. A cloud AI assistant sends your audio or screen content to remote servers for processing. Local AI offers lower latency, guaranteed privacy, and zero network detectability. Cloud AI typically offers more powerful models but introduces privacy risk, network dependency, and potential detection by network monitoring tools.

Question 12

How does Natively handle system design interview questions?

Accepted Answer

When a system design question is detected, Natively surfaces a structured breakdown covering scalability considerations, component architecture, database choices, caching strategies, and trade-off discussions. It adapts suggestions based on the job description you have provided, ensuring the recommended architecture aligns with the expected tech stack for the role.

Question 13

Does Natively require an internet connection during the interview?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the mode you choose, and that flexibility is unique to Natively. In local mode, once the app is installed and your Ollama model is downloaded, Natively operates completely offline — you can run an entire interview in airplane mode with no internet at all, because transcription (local Whisper) and the language model both execute on your device. This air-gapped, privacy-first operation is a core design principle and the reason Natively produces zero detectable network traffic. If you instead opt for cloud mode using your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini key, or the managed Natively API, an internet connection is required because those requests reach the provider's servers. Cloud-only competitors such as Cluely, FinalRoundAI, and LockedIn AI never offer the offline option — they always require connectivity. With Natively you decide per session whether you want maximum AI power (cloud) or maximum privacy and zero footprint (local).

Question 14

Can Natively generate meeting notes automatically?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Natively automatically generates structured meeting notes from live transcription. Notes include identified action items, key decisions, and conversation highlights. For interviews, it produces a session summary with the questions asked and the approaches discussed, which is useful for post-interview reflection and follow-up.

Question 15

What AI models does Natively use?

Accepted Answer

Natively works with whatever model you choose. Run local models fully offline through Ollama (Llama, Mistral, CodeLlama, Gemma) on consumer hardware, or bring your own cloud key for the latest frontier models — Google Gemini 3.1 (the recommended default, with a 2M-token context window), OpenAI GPT-5.4 and o3, Anthropic Claude 4.6, or Groq's Llama 3.3 and Llama 4 Scout for fast OCR and vision. You can also point Natively at any OpenAI-compatible endpoint such as vLLM, LM Studio, OpenRouter, or DeepSeek. If you prefer not to manage keys, the hosted Natively API handles the model and speech-to-text for you. You are never locked into a single vendor.

Question 16

Is Natively safe to use? Will it compromise my privacy?

Accepted Answer

Natively is designed with privacy as its primary constraint. All processing — screen capture, audio transcription, and AI inference — happens on your local device. No personal data, interview content, or audio is transmitted to external servers. Your interview questions, code, and employer information remain exclusively on your machine.

Question 17

How do I install Natively on a Mac?

Accepted Answer

Download the appropriate DMG file from the Natively website — choose the Apple Silicon version (arm64) for M1/M2/M3/M4 Macs or the Intel version for older Macs. Open the DMG, drag Natively to your Applications folder, launch the app, and grant the required screen recording and microphone permissions in macOS System Settings. Setup takes under two minutes.

Question 18

Can Natively help with behavioral interview questions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Natively recognizes behavioral interview patterns — questions beginning with 'Tell me about a time' or 'Describe a situation where' — and provides STAR framework scaffolding (Situation, Task, Action, Result) in real time. When you have uploaded your resume, Natively can also surface relevant experiences from your background that match the question being asked.

Question 19

Does Natively work for non-technical interview roles like product managers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. While Natively was built with software engineers in mind, it is effective for product management interviews, data analyst assessments, and strategy-heavy roles. It can assist with product sense questions, metric definition exercises, case studies, and estimation problems. Its resume-aware mode tailors responses to the specific role and company context.

Question 20

How does Natively compare to using ChatGPT during an interview?

Accepted Answer

ChatGPT requires manual copy-paste interaction and an active internet connection, creating detectable network traffic and a disruptive workflow. Natively runs passively in the background, automatically detecting questions from your live interview audio and displaying suggestions without any manual input. It is purpose-built for interviews, understands interview context, and generates zero outbound network traffic.

Question 21

How does Natively compare to LockedIn AI?

Accepted Answer

Both Natively and LockedIn AI offer real-time interview assistance, but the core difference is where the AI runs and who controls your data. LockedIn AI is cloud-based — it sends your audio and screen data to remote servers, which creates outbound network traffic that proctoring tools or a corporate firewall can detect during a monitored interview. Natively can run entirely on your device with Ollama: no cloud calls, no detectable traffic, and no data leaving your machine. For example, on a locked-down work laptop where outbound AI APIs are blocked, LockedIn AI would fail or be flagged, while Natively in local mode keeps working because nothing leaves the device. Natively also has a permanently free local tier and a BYOK option where you pay only your provider's token cost, whereas LockedIn AI's advanced features require a paid subscription. If you do want cloud-grade models, Natively still lets you plug in your own key — so you get LockedIn AI's power without giving up the local, private fallback.

Question 22

How does Natively compare to Interview Coder for LeetCode interviews?

Accepted Answer

Interview Coder is a LeetCode-focused AI interview tool priced at $60/month. Natively provides the same real-time coding assistance for LeetCode-style algorithm problems, but runs entirely locally on your device at zero cost for the free tier. Natively also covers system design, behavioral, and product interviews — not just coding — making it a more complete alternative to Interview Coder.

Question 23

Is Natively truly undetectable during online interviews?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Natively is designed to be undetectable at both the visual and network layers, and the network layer is where most tools get caught. Visually, Natively does not appear as a separate window or participant in Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams screen shares because it renders as a system-level overlay that is excluded from captured content. At the network layer, when you run in local mode with Ollama, all transcription and AI inference happen on your own CPU or GPU, so Natively generates zero outbound network traffic — a firewall or proctoring agent watching for unusual connections sees nothing. This is the key distinction from cloud-based tools like Cluely, FinalRoundAI, and LockedIn AI, which must make visible API calls to remote servers that monitoring software can flag. Note that detectability only holds in local mode: if you choose cloud mode with your own API key, those requests do travel over the network like any other tool's would.
